The Making of a Movie

Last year for school, Sage wrote a story in her journal called “How Lisa Because the Princess of England.”  She loved the story so much, she turned it into a little book and wrote a script for it.  She planned for months and wrote songs, worked out costumes, sets and scenery and yesterday, she directed and produced her first movie.

Trying on costumes at the dress rehearsal. Is this what my bathroom will look like as they are getting ready for prom?

Tom Turns 41

Last Monday we celebrated Tom’s birthday.  He had to go into work early, but was able to be home for dinner and dessert.  This year as our gifts for him, we each decided on an activity we’d like to do with him.  Ashley is taking him to Red Robin for lunch, Molly is doing a Movie night with just him, Sage is going on a bike ride with him and I’m taking him on an all day date (location TBD).

We had burgers for dinner and blackberry cobbler for dessert, since my decorated cakes always look horrible.  🙂

Surviving the first full week of school

Well, it’s Friday and it’s been a busy week.  The girls had school every day and Ashley even had school today (in 1/2 day Kindergarten the kids go every other Friday.)  AWANA started last night as well.

Wednesday was absolutely horrible.  Not sure why, but it sure was.

Thursday, with the craziness of school and AWANA went surprisingly well and the kids did great.  They even woke up in good moods this morning.  I keep thinking that tired and obnoxious will hit soon, but I hope I’m wrong.  I’ve planned a movie night for tonight with lots of pillows and snuggling!  They get off the bus in about an hour.  We’ll see how tonight goes!

As for me, I’ve written a schedule for myself for the day so I can be as productive as possible.  I’m trying really hard to get everything done that I need to for our family and home before I sit down at the computer and do any work (which was REALLY hard to do this week because I wanted to finish up our new church website (or at least most of it.))

I feel like I got a lot done.  Having a couple mornings kid free really allowed me to organize some stuff and get ahead with meals and housework.  The house is very quiet and my errands this morning were done in about half the time they normally are.  Tom was also able to work from home one morning and that was nice.  We were both doing things that we needed to, but still were able to talk a little with out the girls around.  🙂  I predict a morning date sometime soon!

Lighting candles and playing jazz music quietly in hopes of creating a peaceful and quiet home. We still have some work to do on that . . .

I went and ate lunch with Molly at school on Tuesday.

Ashley’s First Day of Kindergarten

It’s hard to believe that our baby started Kindergarten this morning.  It was a busy week leading up to her Friday start day, but today was the big day!!

Turning 40

Molly and Ashley started school on Tuesday, I turned 40 on Wednesday and Tom had an important meeting at work, and Ashley started Kindergarten on Friday.  It’s been a busy week . . .

That evening, Tom got home early and made dinner and cleaned up the dishes.  🙂  It wasn’t an easy day for him at work, but it really meant a lot to me that he came home early and did this.

It was a pretty tough day with the girls, especially the morning . . . no break from being a Mom, even on your 40th birthday I guess.  It’s been a big week of change and my birthday, while I had a lot of fun making jokes about turning 40, felt a bit like a roller coaster.  Lots of ups and downs for me emotionally as I talked with family and friends about my birthday and just life in general.

Molly thought I needed a picture like theirs - the kind where I write their name on it and put it on the refrigerator. So she took the picture for me and I added the text. Oh my!! 40!!

Along with calls and texts from friends and family, I was spoiled with many handmade cards and gifts from the girls, some gift cards to the Gene Juarez Spa (yeah!!) from family, babysitting for Ashley from a friend so I could go get a pedicure, beautiful flowers from another friend and a Bunn My Cafe machine which brews K-cups, ground coffee, loose tea, tea bags, round tea pods and hot water.  Since I’m only drinking coffee occasionally, I’m so excited the other options this machine has.  🙂  It’s also easy for Tom to make a cup of coffee and I don’t have to remember to get it all ready the night before!  What a fun treat! First Day of School 2014 – updated

Both Molly and Sage started school today.  (Ashley starts on Friday.)  Sage took the bus and wanted to walk to her class herself.  Molly wanted us to drive her.  It’s hard to believe we have a 4 th grader and a 1st grader!

We started off the morning with some special pancakes and breakfast as a family.  Then it was time for pictures and to head to the bus stop!
