January 10-on-10

On one of the blogs I follow, The Blessed Everyday Photography, the photographer suggests taking 10 pictures during 10 hours of the day on the 10th day of every month.  I tried it a few times last year and loved it.  So, I’m starting off strong and even getting January’s pictures up on the 10th!  (The kids are tired and went to bed easily tonight!) I Might Never Buy Cleaning Supplies from the Store Again

My husband is an amazing chef.  I love to learn from him, enjoy all the food he makes, but I really dislike washing chef coats.   And when I say dislike, I really mean hate.  I really have nothing nice to say about chef coats.  They are big and bulky, stains stick to them like super glue and in 15 years, I have never found a product that will actually clean them well.  I have tried everything, searched on line and tired everyone else’s ideas, but still end up washing them 2-3 times each and am not totally happy with the results.  (And when I say I’ve tried everything, I’ve tried bleach, bleach pen, oxy clean, Felths Naptha, Dawn, dishwasher detergent, Simple Green, 409, Windex, dry cleaning, soaking in bleach, scrubbing, washing immediately, the list could go on. . . nothing works.  Eventually you just have to give up and buy new ones.  Until now.  I am pleased to say that after 15 years, I have found a product that actually gets stains out of chef coats.   So each morning, I take Tom’s coat from the day before, grab my Netepur bar and get to work scrubbing.  It’s a bit of work, but I usually only have to wash the coat once and it’s fine.  Unfortunately it does not get out old stains out of the coats that have been dried in the dryer 15 times, but it did make them lighter, which even a bleach pen would not do. Dinner and a Movie

We have a weekly tradition here in our home – Friday night dinner and a movie.  It’s a special treat when Daddy is home on a Friday evening and tonight he was!  We watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, ate chili and enjoyed a selection of Wonka candy for dessert.

Fred Meyer sells 9 different types of Wonka Candy, in case you were wondering. Tom bought them all. :-)

Seattle Free Museum Day

Every month, a few museums in Seattle (and Tacoma) open their doors to visitors for free!  With the ages of our girls, I love this, as we don’t usually stay for very long.  It’s a bit crowded, but it’s free, so no complaints from us.  Since this day is always a Thursday, we don’t have many opportunities to take advantage of it because of school and AWANA.  So when the first Thursday of the month fell on a vacation day, we headed up to Seattle!  We hit 3 museums and a Conservatory – The Seattle Asian Art Museum, Volunteer Park Conservatory, The Museum of History and Industry and The Museum of Flight.   Lots of walking, but like I said, we just kind of walk through and look.  🙂 (more…)

The End of Another Year

DSC04456 (800x371)I can’t believe it’s already New Year’s Eve – aka Sage’s favorite day of the year (because she eats a bunch of yummy food, watches movies and gets to stay up really late).  We had a few playdates during the day and then enjoyed our usual tradition of appetizers and caramel fondu for dinner/snacks.
