I am really enjoying my full time job of taking care of our home and family. When I stopped teaching after Sage was born, I thought for sure I would want to go back to teaching after Ashley was in school full time. I’m so thankful that Tom’s job allows me to stay home full time, as there is so much going on with our family of 5.
When I was home for a year in active cancer treatment, I noticed every little part of our home that needed repair, saw so many things that could be organized and noticed many things that we had that we never used. As I recovered and had more energy, I’ve put some routines in place and have slowly completed home projects (with Tom’s help), digitized all our files and keepsakes, collected serial numbers for valuables and organized every room and closet of our home. It’s nice to be on the tail end of all that and just maintain things.
Of course I’m always reorganizing things…I get that from my Mom.
A few weeks ago, the room I was focusing on was Molly and Ashley’s. Their closet was so cluttered, I decided to take everything and organize it.
Then this happened…

This part of the closet used to be at the top…
So…..the closet organization stuff came out of the wall and crashed onto the floor.
I decided since I had to go to Home Depot to get parts to fix it, I would add a few shelves, baskets, etc. to make things work better for the girls. I am pretty proud of myself. I am not a fix-it type of person, but was able to get this back up, leveled correctly, and add a few new shelves and baskets. Then I bought a bunch of tubs and organized everything. There is no excuse for clutter and junk in the closet as everything has a place! I even made cute labels for the bins.
Oh my….I seriously think I have a problem. I just loved all of this!!

This part of the closet was still stable on the wall, so I added some hanging baskets and shelves so the space worked better for us.

This was the part that fell. I hung the fallen shelf off and added two more. Now the games are accessible to the girls and they can access craft supplies easier.
It was always hard for the girls to keep the closet clean as there wasn’t really good places to put things, so it always looked messy. Now cleaning up is much easier. (We have also been slowing getting rid of things they don’t play with, which makes it easier to find the things they DO want to play with.)
In other news….Sage has been asking to paint her room. It was a very bright green when we moved in 8 1/2 years ago. But we bought bedding and made it work. It wasn’t horrible, but she really wanted something a little more grown up looking, and there was not much she could do with the green walls.
We agreed to a small room makeover, if she was willing to do a lot of the work. She learned a lot through the cleaning, masking, painting, waiting (this was the hardest), and painting again. We let her get a new comforter and a few things for the walls. She did a great job of incorporating some of the decorations we already had with the new things we bought.

This area allows her to get ready in her room in the morning, which frees up the bathroom. She added the table runner on the top to hide some of the marks on the desk. It’s amazing how the same things look so different with the gray walls.

It took her a while to decide how to put things up on the wall, but I love the finished product. She has such a great eye for decorating!
I’m going to tackle my closet next week, as I’m having trouble keeping it neat. 🙂
